About

I am Zuhail Abdullah, an interdisciplinary researcher working at the intersection of remote sensing, GIS, machine learning, and hydrological modeling. I am currently a Junior Research Fellow at the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, where I contribute to hydrological and hydrogeological studies involving spatial analysis, groundwater assessment, irrigation evaluation, and flood nowcasting workflows.
My work combines earth observation datasets, geospatial analysis, and scientific computing to study water resources and environmental change. I use Python, Google Earth Engine, QGIS, ArcGIS, GeoPandas, xarray, and machine learning frameworks to build reproducible workflows for hydro-climatic analysis, drought monitoring, groundwater dynamics, and remote sensing applications.
Before my current role, I worked as a Resource Person at the National Institute of Hydrology, where I helped develop ResSed, a deep learning-based GUI platform for time-series stochastic component forecasting. I also worked as a Software Developer and Data Systems Engineer, building Python data pipelines, REST APIs, validation systems, and ML-ready data workflows.
My research interests include climate extremes, drought monitoring and modeling, hydro-climatic risk assessment, climate regionalization, non-stationarity in hydrological systems, and the use of machine learning for remote sensing and water resources applications. I am particularly interested in practical, data-driven tools that connect scientific research with environmental decision-making.
I hold an M.Sc. in Remote Sensing and GIS Applications from Aligarh Muslim University and a Bachelor of Computer Applications from Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University. I also qualified GATE 2023 in Geomatics Engineering with an All India Rank of 92.
Alongside research and development, I enjoy teaching and mentoring. I have delivered invited technical lectures on machine learning, stochastic hydrology, random forests, LSTMs, and hydrological regionalization, and have contributed to workshops and training programs for students, researchers, and professionals.
